Additional Information:

Buakaw Por. Pramuk is at this moment probably the best known Thai fighter outside of Thailand due to the fact that Buakaw has won the prestigious K-1 Max World championship title twice and has fought all over the world.  Buakaw started his fighting career under the name “Damtamin Kiat Anan” in Surin at the age of 8. When he moved over to the Por Pramuk gym at the age of 10, his name was changed into “Buakaw Por. Pramuk”. In 2001, Buakaw wins his first title as feather weight champion of Omnoi stadium and that same year he goes on to win the National feather weight title of Thailand. In the following year, he again wins an Omnoi stadium title, only this time as a lightweight. During that same year he also wins the Toyota Marathon tournament held at Lumpinee stadium. In 2004, the international Muay Thai fans get introduced to the highly talented Thai fighter when he takes part in the K1 Max tournament and for the first time takes the championship belt home with him to the country it all started. In 2005, he almost managed to prolong his title but lost the final to Andy Souwer. But in 2006 he was back again and again he had to face Andy Souwer in the final, defeating the Dutch by TKO. He became the first fighter in the history of K1 Max to win the title twice and is seen as one of the greatest Muay Thai fighters ever by many.

Buakaw is best known for his explosive kicks and his seemly endless energy in the ring. Buakaw is strangely trying to improve the image of Muay Thai in Thailand because the sport lost popularity in Thailand in recent years as Muay Thai is seen as the sport for the poor by many and not a safe sport to being practiced by youngsters. Buakaw has appeared on many Thai TV shows after his K1 successes and tries to explain to the Thai people that they have great national treasure in  Muay Thai and that the people should be proud that so many from all over the globe come to study the art of Muay Thai in Thailand.

On 1st of March story’s started appearing in the media that Buakaw went missing from his long time Muay Thai camp Por Pramuk Gym. On Mach the 12th Buakaw appeared on Thai TV were he stated in an interview that he felt exploited by the management of the Por Pramuk Gym. He stated in this same interview that he needed some time to contemplate his future. On March the 17th his sponsor Yokkao Boxing announced  that they would support him in setting up his own newly built gym named “Banchamek” as of March 22th of 2012.  So as from now Buakaw will be known as Buakaw Banchamek.
